Why Do People Want Green Pest Control

As they say: “The world is turning green.” Environmentally aware consumers have chosen green as their banner color. These concerns about the environment and the impact that man has on it has brought to market many new products that have taken up that green banner and this is also true of the pest control market. Pest control products claiming to be environmentally friendly are cropping up everywhere and are becoming increasingly popular by homeowners and businesses.Interest in green pest management methods does increase but at the same time is tempered by the extra cost of these methods. Green pest control often costs significantly more than regular pest control methods.

Particularly popular with schools, nursing homes and hospitals and environmentally aware homeowners are requesting solutions that use less toxic chemicals. The focus of the pest control industry is shifting towards Integrated Pest Management. This is because integrated Pest Management or IPM as it is often called is safer for people and pets and other animals. Most pest control companies now offer IPM services. IPM methods use non toxic or low toxicity material to treat pest infestations. Fear and legitimate concerns are moving the market towards IPM methods.

Due to the increasing demand, the Integrated Pest Management Institute of North America has created the Green Shield Certified program in order to standardize the available products and services. While the fact is that when people are dealing with a pest problem they want it dealt with and don’t much care how. Whether people are dealing with roaches, spiders, ants, silverfish, termites, or bed bugs, the concerns are the same. Get the pest gone! Still, even with these strong desires people are becoming more interested in solutions that don’t sacrifice the safety of humans or animals and especially children. While old and well used pest management methods will still be used by some companies that are slow to realize the potential benefits of green pest control, the customer ultimately will dirve the industry to change. Green pest control methods will continue to grow and evolve.
